Frankie and Sonia planned to go visit family in Puerto Rico for Christmas and before arriving, Frankie had suggested they go watch the sunrise on Christmas Day, something neither of them had ever done before. Now, even though Sonia is from Puerto Rico, she didn’t have the slightest idea as to where they could go to see the sunrise, so she checked online for any suggestions but nothing really showed up. So she decided they would just wing it.

They arrived to Puerto Rico around 12:30am on the 25th, after a not so wonderful delay at Atlanta, and ended up going to sleep about an hour later. They woke up around 5:30, got ready and headed off. By now Sonia had decided to go to San Juan to the Ventana al Mar, which had opened up after she had moved to Connecticut and she had only seen at night but knew had a beautiful view of the ocean.

The sun was supposed to rise at 6:57am and they arrived around 6:15, so they walked to the beach and saw exactly where the sun was going to rise…but…oh no! There was a condominium building right in the way! They walked closer towards the sunrise, hoping the view would get better…but it didn’t. This didn’t discourage their spirits though and they walked barefoot back through the sand and climbed the rocks between them and the boardwalk, sat on the edge and enjoyed the smell, feel and view of the ocean, as well as a hint of the sunrise on the horizon…

Frankie hugged Sonia hard and told her how much he loved her and how much she meant to him. Then he got up, lifting her with him, and started to slow dance with her on the boardwalk to the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks…he suddenly stopped and kneeled right in front of her…as he took out a box, he spoke and asked her to marry him…the response, as always, laughter from Sonia, as well as a huge hug and kiss to seal the deal…
