Dan and I met four years ago this week. We knew from that day that we would spend the rest of our lives together.

I was born in Ireland and the majority of my family are still there. Last May my parents told me that they wanted my brother and I to go with them to Ireland to spend Christmas with our family. My two Grandmothers are there and I hadn't spent Christmas with them since I was 2 years old. I was sad that I would spend Christmas without Dan, but knew that the time I would spend with my Grandmothers would be so valuable to me.

Dan and I spoke everyday coming up to Christmas. Once Christmas Eve came, my Mom asked me to do some food shopping for Christmas dinner. I spent three hours in the busy Irish town of Cavan trying to find my way around the unfamiliar shops. I finally returned home around 2:00 in the afternoon. When I came inside my mother told me that there was a Christmas present waiting for me in the living room. I thought that maybe Dan had sent me flowers from America. When I walked into the room, I couldn't believe my eyes. Dan was sitting there on the couch waiting for me. He stood up and said, "Did you think I could spend Christmas without you?" I couldn't believe he was actually there. Just at that moment he told me he had something else for me. This was as he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was the most special way I could of imagined it happening. Dan had come back to where I was born, and surrounded by all my family, he asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. We are now happily planning our wedding and can't wait to be husband and wife.
